AST-MSL are working with BLUE MARINE FOUNDATION on the Lyme Bay project by supplying 29 GAP Guardian Apps to improve traceability of catch size and location whilst fishing.
The GAP Guardian mobile application has been developed to work with smart phones within GPRS areas; to track and monitor its position, with the added benefit of SOS functionality. The app is downloaded from any app store and runs on IOS and Android. The data is then accessed through a web-based Portal which can be used as a reporting tool.
Lyme Bay has a history of overfishing, and Blue Marine Foundation work alongside the fishermen and stakeholders to come up with conservation plans for the area. The GAP Guardian app facilitates this by allowing the management of geofences within Marine Protected reserves, making this a template for sustainable UK Fishing.
